One look at Panasonic SDR-H85 and you can see how it resembles a small telescope that captures all the SD videos with good definition. You would not feel the complexity in getting closer to your subject with its 70x lens and the way it manages the optical stabilization function.

It is a functional camcorder with all manual controls at their proper positions, and with an 80GB hard drive for storage capacity, you can not ignore the way it expands that with all SD, SDXC and even SDHC memory cards.

Priced at $349.95 with dimensions 2.8×2.8×5.5 and weighing 8.3 ounces, the Panasonic SDR-H85 has got a total resolution of 704×480 for video and 640×480 for audio. The video quality is not that appreciative though, but it is the regular quality you can expect from any standard definition camcorder. It is an inexpensive camcorder with easy-to-use option for getting about average SD videos with a megazoom lens.

Although there is nothing more special about the device as such, but the top and the left sides are a mixture of glossy black and chrome plastic material with matte black plastic material on the right side.

The Panasonic SDR-H85 is light enough to slide in a large pocket or handbag. The controls of the camcorder are the typical ones which are well positioned, along with the button for activating the autofocus, a 5-way navigational joystick for manual shooting adjustments, and a menu control.

The navigation keys have options for white balance, shutter speed, focus, and also aperture in the manual mode, but the menu keys are not graphically that attractive and the 2.7-inch LCD has got low resolution with 123K dots. The camcorder has got both the manual and auto shooting options with the iA/Manual single press button.

Panasonic SDR-H85 supports MPEG-2 (.MOD), AVC/H.264 (.MP4) and the Dolby digital stereo file formats, and has the lithium ion rechargeable battery that runs for about 2 hr 55 min continuously.

It shoots videos with f1.9-5.7 aperture and 33-2571mm (35mm equivalent) focal length, and the zoom range provided by the SDR-H85 is unbelievable at this price.
