New Scientific Break Through! Large Hadron Collider Tests Begin

Another great break through for mankind, the recent news of beginning of particle collider tests takes us to the next level of Science. The History of this project goes back to as late as 1984 when it first got incepted. This new break through can now open the mysteries of knowing the dimensions of Time and Space.

On Wednesday, 10th September 2008, The world’s largest Particle collider passed its first major tests by firing two beams of protons in opposite directions around a 17-mile underground ring. At around 10:26 am, two white dots flashed on the screens after series of trials. These flashing dots indicate that the protons had traveled a full length through the Large Hadron Collider. This Large Hadron Collider was built at a cost of whopping $3.8 Billion and is the history’s Biggest Science Experiment.

With this all the physicists have much more power to crush the atoms to know more details about it. The Organization carrying out this experiment is called “CERN”, by its french name. It began these tests by shooting protons through the tunnel in steps with first shot at 9:35 am. Another shot was fired about 5 hours later in anti clockwise direction.

Two beams would finally be fired in opposite directions in order to reproduce the effect of Big Bang, The theory behind creation of Universe. This collider is designed to make protons travel at the speed of light, zooming 11,000 times per second around the tunnel. These beams are fired through two hoses, speeding through the vacuum that is colder and emptier than outer space. The collide of protons would finally happen when both beam cross each other eventually and a set of large and heavy digital cameras would take pictures of the collision. The cameras have the capability of taking millions of shots per second.

These CERN experiments could reveal more about the Dark Matter and Anti matter. The hypothetical particle, called “Gods particle” could also be possibly detected. Though dangers involve in this expriment, particularly when the beam is fired at full power, there are high chances of the accelerator getting damaged.

Lets wait and see when the experiments are officially and properly carried out. No dates have been set yet, but possibly these expriments would resume within few months.

Chrome: Google's Reply to Browser Giants

In already fierce battle of Browsers, there seems to be a new competitor. Guess what? Its again Google creating a hostile environment with its technology.

Google has announced the Beta version of its browser, called the Chrome, which is all set to win over users from other browsers. This browser has a comic feel in it and is entirely different from any other browser used in the past. It uses Web kit engine just like Safari and has been developed right from scratch to work without any error.

Chrome comes with some amazing features when compared to the Browser giants like Mozilla Firefox, IE, Opera or Netscape. Though the differences appear to be very simple, they can have great effect on the way it is used.

First of all, every tab in chrome works as an independent browser and has nothing to do with any other tab within it. If say one tab crashes, only that is closed and all other tabs have no effect on them. This is a great feature for people who use multiple tabs.

Second advantage is the all new JavaScript engine which is much more faster than previous fastest browsers. Multithreading is another feature. There is also a built in task manager which shows which takes how much memory or CPU time.

We made an attempt to use this new chrome with other browsers and see if it worked better. We installed all the browsers without any plugins. We tested it on our notebook which has intel centrino duo core, 4 gb ram and works on vista.

First, we checked the launch time of each browser which is very crucial for users. The following was the outcome: IE – 1 second, Firefox – 2 Seconds, Opera – 3 Seconds and Chrome – 1 Second.

Then we checked the java script speed. With several tests already in place to check Javascript speeds, we tried one of them. Opera gave handled it in 600 milliseconds which was lowest amongst the three old browsers. on the other hand, Chrome completed it in just 350 milliseconds. That was damn too fast!

However, these results might vary in different cases. Chrome truly has an advanced JavaScript engine which can beat any other browser in competition.

We now checked the memory usage with 5 tabs. The results were: IE – 60 MB, Firefox – 64.4 MB, Opera – 52.2 MB and Chrome – 75.4 MB. On the face of it, it seems that chrome is using more memory.

However, we checked the results again after 11 minutes of usage. The results were: IE – 96 MB, Firefox – 109.8 MB, Opera – 96.6 MB and Chrome – 84.1 MB. Well, chrome again proved to be exceptional in memory usage.

These were some of the experimental tests carried out by us to check the chromes chances of surviving. It sure proved that Chrome is here to stay and can bring a revolution in the browser world. What more, Google is going to keep chrome as open-source, which means developers can come up with better versions of it going forward. The final and user version of chrome will soon be released. Only Time would tell its performance in the real world. Anyways, Kudos to Google!
